Emily Dickinson, 498

Ik libbe op Skrik -
Wa’t witte hoe’t
Gefaar jin fiteret -
Foar dy is oare Prikel net
Oansprekkend - sûnder fut -

As wurde har - de Spoaren jûn -
Sa twingt in Eangst de Siel
En gean dêr’t Wanhoop tante wurdt
As ’t spoek har net skewielt.

I lived on Dread -
To Those who know
The stimulus there is
In Danger - Other impetus
Is numb - and vitalless -

As ’twere a Spur - opon the Soul -
A Fear will urge it where
To go without the spectre’s aid
Were challenging Despair.
