Ach, wat is it smoarch!
\n\u2013 dat lytse tankstasjon,
\noaljich, mei oalje fers\u00eade
\nta in \u00fbntr\u00eastigjende, alhiel
\nswarte trochskinendheid.
\nPas op mei dy l\u00fasjefers!<\/p>\n

De heit hat in overal oan,
\nsmoarch en oaljich
\nen te krap \u00fbnder de earms,
\nen in steal kwike, dryste,
\ngleie soannen helpt him
\n(\u2019t is in famyljetankstasjon),
\nelk troch ende troch smoarch.<\/p>\n

Wenje se yn it stasjon?
\nIt hat achter de pompen
\nin betonnen weranda, mei
\nin wrak, fan fet trochlutsen
\nrotan-ameublemint derop;
\nop de reiden sofa,
\nhiel noflik, in smoarge h\u00fbn.<\/p>\n

In pear stripboeken jouwe

\nfeal, dat in krukje oerdekt

Filling Station<\/em><\/big><\/p>\n

Oh, but it is dirty!
\n\u2014this little filling station,
\noil-soaked, oil-permeated
\nto a disturbing, over-all
\nblack translucency.
\nBe careful with that match!<\/p>\n

Father wears a dirty,
\noil-soaked monkey suit
\nthat cuts him under the arms,
\nand several quick and saucy
\nand greasy sons assist him
\n(it\u2019s a family filling station),
\nall quite thoroughly dirty.<\/p>\n

Do they live in the station?
\nIt has a cement porch
\nbehind the pumps, and on it
\na set of crushed and grease-
\nimpregnated wickerwork;
\non the wicker sofa
\na dirty dog, quite comfy.<\/p>\n

Some comic books provide
\nthe only note of color\u2014
\nof certain color. They lie
\nupon a big dim doily
\ndraping a taboret
\n(part of the set), beside
\na big hirsute begonia.<\/p>\n

Why the extraneous plant?
\nWhy the taboret?
\nWhy, oh why, the doily?
\n(Embroidered in daisy stitch
\nwith marguerites, I think,
\nand heavy with gray crochet.)<\/p>\n

Somebody embroidered the doily.
\nSomebody waters the plant,
\nor oils it, maybe. Somebody
\narranges the rows of cans
\nso that they softly say:

\nto high-strung automobiles.
\nSomebody loves us all.<\/p>\n
